Abstract

As global interest in environmental sustainability and alternative protein sources grows, yellow mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) have emerged as a valuable resource. These insects exist in various strains, each with unique characteristics that enable their tailored industrialization for specific applications. However, the quality of yellow mealworm products is significantly influenced by post-breeding and post-production processing, presenting numerous challenges for successful industrialization. This review explores recent trends in the industrialization of yellow mealworms, highlighting various international case studies. Furthermore, it examines the current limitations of the domestic yellow mealworm industry and proposes practical strategies to overcome these challenges and advance industrialization efforts.
