Abstract

We installed sex pheromone traps to capture the soybean pod borer, Leguminivora glycinivorella, in soybean fields in Baengnyeong and Yeoncheon at 38°N latitude areas during 2020 and 2021. The traps were baited with a 1:1 mixture of (E,E)-8,10-dodecadienyl acetate and tetradecyl acetate. We analyzed nucleotide sequences of the cytochrome c oxidase 1 gene from lepidopterous adults caught in the traps to identify species. Two different groups (M and S) of the soybean pod borer, with an average genetic distance of 3.5% in the sequences, were detected in the same field in Yeoncheon; group M was also found in Baengnyeong. Adults of the soybean pod borer appeared between late August and mid-September during the trapping periods. Many non-target males representing about 40 species were also captured, with a Grapholitini sp. and Epiblema foenella, (Tortricidae) being dominant. The result indicates that the pheromone lure composition used in this study was not highly species-specific for the soybean pod borer.
